Recap: December 22, 1993

Alden Mansion – Living Room

Ally comes downstairs and wonders why Cooper is all dressed up. He tells her they need to talk about something important and asks her if she’s sure she wants to marry him.

Hospital – Private Room

Gwyneth and Clay visit Curtis, who isn’t looking much better after a night in the hospital. He wants to know where Dinah Lee is and when he learns that she hasn’t been found, he’s ready to leap out of bed, but his parents stop him. Gwyneth asks him to get some rest and he admits to being tired. He suggests they go and get some breakfast, but Gwyneth is reluctant to leave. Curtis talks them into it, but Gwyneth tells him that they’re going to send Trucker – who has been there all night – in to see him.

They leave and Trucker walks in. “I’m busting out of here to get Dinah Lee – and you’re going to help me,” Curtis tells him.

Cave

Dinah Lee is asleep in a pile of leaves. She comes to and sits up, but can’t leave because Dante is at the entrance. “Sleep well?” he wonders, all smiles.

Alden Mansion – Living Room

Ally assures Cooper that she’s sure she wants them to get married and he’s relieved and asks if she wants to start planning the wedding. She suggests they run off and elope, but he points out that they’ve already done that and says he wants to do a big Alden wedding. She says that the bride’s family is supposed to take care of the wedding and he tells her they can’t “have a potluck dinner in your grandmother’s backyard.” She wonders why not and he tries to claim that it’s because Kate’s backyard is too small. I don’t know, man. Have you seen the size of the rooms at Kate’s house, which are apparently endless in number? The Rescott house might be secretly as big as the Alden mansion, is what I’m saying.

He wonders if she doesn’t want to make plans because she wants to “talk to Casey first.”

Hospital – Private Room

Trucker tries to stop Curtis from getting out of bed, but Curtis is determined. He wants to go back to the airstrip and have another look. Trucker keeps trying to talk him out of it and says he knows how he feels. “How could you know how I feel?” Curtis wonders. “She’s my wife.” He lists the ways he’s let Dinah Lee down and says he won’t do it again and wonders if Trucker will help. “I will,” Tess says, coming into the room and looking to make amends. Curtis assures her that he doesn’t hate her and that he now understands what she was going through when they first met.

When Curtis repeats that he loves Dinah Lee, Trucker looks like he’s been punched in the stomach.

Cave

Dinah Lee tries to talk Dante into letting her go, but of course he refuses. She tries to play nice and he assures her that he “would never harm [her].” He then assures her that he didn’t take advantage of her the night before because he’s “saving that” for when they’re married.

She wonders how he’s going to sneak her into his home country and he says he’s very well-connected. He promises her that she’ll know a more luxurious life once they get to Kuwait and tells her that he brought Curtis back into order to punish him for what he did to them both. “You deserve better, Dinah Lee, and I am going to give it to you.”

As he starts making a fire, she quietly takes hold of a large rock and starts to sneak up on him, but stops as he starts to get worked up while monologuing to himself about how she’s going to be a better wife than “that whore.”

Alden Mansion – Living Room

Ally tells Cooper that she does think she should break the news to Casey about their engagement and he encourages her to tell him, but wonders how she thinks Casey will react. “I don’t think he’ll care,” she says. He wonders if she’s really over him. She doesn’t really answer because she just says, “I am marrying you.” Girl, you married him before and you weren’t over Casey, so…

Ally asks Cooper to trust her and tells him that she’ll sign a prenup to reassure him and his family that she’s going into the marriage with good intentions. She tells him to have someone come over that minute so they can do it, and he surprises her by telling her that there’s someone coming over as they speak.

Hospital – Private Room/Hallway

Trucker, dressed as an orderly, and Tess help Curtis get onto a gurney so they can pretend he’s a dead body. They pull the sheet over him and wheel him into the hallway, where they’re waylaid by a doctor who gets suspicious when he starts asking questions. Tess distracts him, telling him that he looks like an actor on a soap that she watches, and when the doctor turns around, Trucker and “the body” are gone.

Cave

Dinah Lee tries to get the drop on Dante, but he turns his attention back to her before she can. She pretends that she’s come around to his way of thinking about Curtis, but can’t hide the fact that she’s afraid of him, which upsets him. He starts telling her a story about a trauma from his childhood and while he’s distracted, she tries to strike him, but he catches her and they struggle.

Alden Mansion – Living Room/Foyer

Ally comes down the stairs with Tyler, confused about why she had to get him to meet with the lawyer. “Who said anything about a lawyer?” Cooper wonders. She thought that was who he meant when he said someone was coming over, but when he brings her back into the living room Arthur is there dressed as Santa.

Arthur’s allergies start acting up with the beard on his face, but he pushes through to complete the performance.

When Santa/Arthur asks what Ally wants, Cooper pulls out a gift for her: a diamond engagement ring.

Cave

Dante and Dinah Lee struggle and he wins, telling her she’s made a “big mistake.” She tries to apologize and make him sympathize with her and then tries to negotiate. He tells her to make herself comfortable and to “conserve [her] body heat or [they’ll] have to generate [their] own.”

He notices a pearl on the floor of the cave and tells her that he’ll replace her necklace when they’re married.

Hospital – Hallway/Private Room

Gwyneth and Clay return and find Curtis gone, having left a note behind.

Airstrip

Trucker and Curtis get to the airstrip and start looking around. Curtis admits that he was so drugged he can’t even remember what Dinah Lee was wearing when he saw her at the apartment and Trucker recites the items of her outfit from memory. Curtis kind of looks at him like “What the fuck?” which is entirely appropriate and earned.

Curtis spots the clasp from the necklace on the ground.
